The bright spot in this week has been the bird moments. On Tuesday, I was walking to work, and saw one of the campus hawks standing over its kill, a pigeon. It was looking around as if to say, "Look what I did! See? See? I killed it! Look, damn you!" And then picked up its breakfast and flew away, with a small retinue of angry mockingbirds following behind. Wednesday, I saw a baby blue jay wandering about, and shooed it away from the road, back on the green. Come this morning, its still wandering around the green. It looks healthy, and already has a fair amount of that fearless jay belligerence. You can get about two feet from it before it bothers to hop away, peering balefully over its shoulder at you. I shooed it back away from the road again. I'm a little worried about one of the hawks getting it, but...there are lots of fat, slow pigeons around. If I were a hawk, I'd prefer one of them to a stringy little fluffball. So I hope it'll be okay. It's probably only a few days until it can fly on its own.

Also, still no ORC.
