You know, I don't think I actually have to go to work today. It took some looking on the USC website, but they say that they're observing the New Year's Holiday today, on all campuses, and I couldn't get any answer at the office. And it's 10:30, so /someone/ should be there. It also jives with my vague memory of someone saying we come back on the 3rd, not the 2nd.

So, yay. If I'm wrong, I'll just work five hours a day for the rest of the week, because it is /yucky/ out there, and I had very strange dreams that kept me up.

First it was like NWN, except virtual reality and much, much better graphics. I was playing a wizard who had a pink wombat (born from grapes...the smaller the grape you used in the summoning, the smaller a wombat you got) as a familiar. We were marooned in a very strange world, that had lost most conventional magic, but had Other Stuff. Like, for example, I got to ride a golden eagle the size of a helicopter...an eagle of real, actual gold. Also, the land was broken into islands, and the culture had done away with imprisonment as such. They could create new islands on demand, and if you did something disruptive, they just dropped you on a new island. So the chains surrounding the main island were filled with a variety of madmen and wonders.

The mainland was something else, however. It was a cross between Superior Victory: Asmodeus, and Andre. Nearly all forms of expression were stifled, everything was grey and rigidly ruled...you couldn't have any of a variety of contrabanded items, and those items changed at whim. Everyone was shuffled into jobs designed to wear them down and crush their souls. Just about the only form of release or entertainment allowed was sex, which dominated what consumer and 'artistic' culture remained. People copulated frantically and drearily, trying to fill up the emptiness in their lives with that sensation, and just about everything sold had some sort of sexual theme.

It was, actually, about this time that the dream took an IN bent, and my character ended up falling in with a couple of Kobalites and a Creationer, both Words had pretty much permanently lost their Superiors at some point, and were in violation of edicts keeping all unregistered celestials off of the Corporeal Plane. They took her in when she was nearly arrested by the grey police, and together they worked to save the Lone Gunmen, who were stuck with jobs as movie attendents.

It was a strange dream.
