1. LJ, please stop changig my interfaces! As soon as I get used to one, something changes, and I'm a-hunting for what I need. It's silly.

2. Giga frustrations. I cannot spend 25 additional points. Well, no, I can. I can make one Item of Power that makes her effectively immune to the psychic powers of anyone but GOD, and then another that drains any special power from anyone in the area (there are, of course, other things I could make, but most of them would end up stepping on another character's thematic and power toes). But, honestly? At that point, she stops being a fun gadgeteer with a nifty suit and computer, and starts being a modern Exalted character. And that's...not really what I'm interested in. But not doing the power inflate means she'll be the weakest member of the 'team', likely only good for support and research. And that's not what I'm looking for either. I may end up just shelving her for another game sometime. Or possibly doing some fiction. Either way, I need to do something creative sooooon.

3. Tiiiired. This has been a long, event-filled week, and I'm about rung out. Work seems to be a case of hurry-up-and-wait, which isn't all that fun, but better than having people yell at me, so yay.

I followed this particular version on the missing/dead white girl with some level of interest since the first headline hit CNN, largely because the original speculation made it sound like something from a spy movie. Marine disappears shortly before giving confidential testimony on some unknown crime, foul play suspected! As ghoulish as it truly is, it's interesting.

But what was even /more/ interesting, was the brief period between that and where we are now, knowing that she was murdered.

Namely, the part where it was revealed that she was pregnant, and that the crime in question that she was testifying on was a rape. Because, if you were lucky enough to catch the stories in that brief period of time before the body was found, you'll see an interesting catchphrase: compulsive liar.

Her family said it, her superiors implied it, and much was made of the fact that she was staying with another male serviceman. She was immediately made out to be shamed and untrustworthy, and probably ran away on her own, faking the scenes of distress to make it look like foul play. It was largely considered that the rape charges were baseless (and it was even implied that crying rape was something she'd done more than once in one story).

A very different tone from now. And I suspect, had the crime she was claiming been anything other than rape, I suspect we'd never had heard that tone, or seen those stories questioning her integrity and implying that she was, bluntly, a lying slut.

It's...interesting.
Conversation on Sammy got me started thinking about it, again.

So very long )
