You know, within the confines of what I could reasonably expect (meaning, the utter lack of an /actual/ liberal or progressive presidential candidate), this really is a sweetheart year for voting. McCain is getting eaten by his own party attack dogs, and not in the happy fun way. Both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton are intelligent, competent people who I don't agree with completely, but don't feel a real, distinct distaste in voting for either one of them (we'll see how I feel after whoever wins chooses their running mate). So, it's actually a situation that is really pleasant to be in.
Which is why it rather irritates me to see progressives who should be utterly jonesed about the way things are going, instead wasting their time gnawing and clawing at each other over whether Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton are the best. It's rather counterproductive, really. The two parties should be trying to OUT AWESOME each other, because it's really pretty cool.
Ah, well. A small, cynical part of me still kinda hopes that the Dems lose the election. Because I strongly suspect that we're just picking up speed in our downward slide, and that we have not hit the bottom, yet. And, if there's a Dem in the White House when we do, then somehow, it'll become all their fault, even when this stuff has been building for eight solid years. But, hey, dum spiro spero.
