Have acquired and finished 'Heroes Adrift', the next in the Source and Shield books. If I were going to sum up the plot in a very short blurb, I think it'd be, "Wherein Lee and Shintaro learn the perils of letting one's ruler know that you really are incorruptable." It remains a very interesting series, even more so because the main characters are taken out of their usual element.
And Lee remains a very unusual narrator and romantic fantasy heroine. She is, by training and inclination, insensitive to most things, physically and emotionally. She is hyper-controlled, and that's actually highlighted in this book, where she's not allowed a pass because of her position in society.
It's a very character-focused book. The plot is, to be honest, rather thin. There's a lot of set up for later plot-lines, but only one thing of true moment happens, /plot-wise/. Character-wise, however, there's a lot of development, and growth on the part of the leads, as well as a significant fleshing out of the world and the societies therein. I look forward to seeing how the things the characters learned about themselves and the ways they changed are reflected as they return to their proper places.
Which is really just a fancy way to say: MOAR. NAOW.
