At this point of the year, in a public school, 'let them eat cake' is not a suggestion: it's an order. Namely, this is the time of year when people decide to show their appreciation for teacher-type people by stuffing them full of food and sweets. Not only that, but if any class has a project which is going to involve cooking, now's the time, and you can bet that a) it'll look /marvelous/ and b) you'll be encouraged to eat it.
