I am reminded once again how futile it is to try and hold a conversation on RPG.net that touches on sexism in any but the most obvious and offensive way, because it's pointless. The amount of hysterical (ha ha) flipping out from certain of the male posters is /so/ kneejerk and immediate that there's simply no point.
cappadocius, you are a braver person than I, to even try and have that discussion. I've pretty much given up.
(For what it's worth, I find Mo's Movie Measure to be a pretty good one. Yeah, I watch movies that fail it miserably, and I enjoy them, but it does point out something /very/ interesting about the mainstream movie industry.)
(For those who haven't heard of it, Mo's Movie Measure is from 'Dykes to Watch Out For', where one of the characters will not watch any movie that does not meet three criteria: It has more than one female character, the two female characters /talk/, and they talk about something other than a man.)
EDIT: BTW, if you're interested in a movie that DOES pass the Measure, that's a damned good horror movie, too, try 'The Descent'. All female cast in all significant respects.
ANOTHER EDIT: A filmmaker blogs about one of the reasons that films /don't/ pass the Mo Measure.
