I used to be able to say that what was happening in the USA scared the spit out of me, but at least I was up here in Canada where we were safe(r) from the Right. And then we elected a conservative government. sigh.
I'm an outsider, obviously, and I just don't understand what's happening South of my border. You folks have a wonderful guiding principle to live by: Your Constitution is, and should be, a model for free societies worldwide. Yet it seems that your own government is intent upon chipping away at the Constitution's influence on the government. It's scary, dammit.
Hell, /I/ don't understand it. I don't understand how people can continue to swallow this, or view the burning need to keep two men or two women from kissing in public as more important than their most central and vital liberties. *sigh*
Oh, well, that's obvious! Preventing two consenting adults from expressing their affection is obviously crucial, because it contributes to the moral degradation of society and youth and everything. The Bible must say that, somewhere. Whereas secret trials and storing intelligence on your innocent citizenry doesn't degrade society because nobody knows about it. So shhhhhhh... if they don't know their rights are being abused then its okay.
