Bleh.

Sick.

Unhappy. Nose hates me.

Have one Valdemar character sheet! Yay! A couple of other concepts floated at me, although no other character sheets yet. Think I will stop taking characters at 7. That's the max that I think could really be handled without the game moving at a glacial pace.

Still have cards to do, and a thank you letter to write. No concentration. Need more drugs.

EDIT: Have the character sheets for a Sun-Priest, a Herald, and a Tale'edras Mage, with solid concepts but no sheets for a Kyree and a Valdemaran Guard character. Those characters get priority, but still have two 'slots' open.

Sick too. Sinuses full. Head too heavy to lift. Shoot me?

I've been having a difficult time settling on just one character. There are so many options for a Valdemar setting that I'm a little paralyzed. That said, I think I may have settled on a concept. Shall I post here, or is there someplace else that would be better?

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Posting it here is fine! :) We've already got a Herald and a Sun Priest, if that helps narrow it down any.

And a Tayledras! Hopefully. [laughs] How's this? Anything I should add or remove or revise, since it's been awhile since I last reread the books? (Should be custom-locked to Pyrephox; let me know if it doesn't work, or if you want me to e-mail it or anything.)

I /like/ the character, a lot. You may want to reconsider a few of the stats, though. Despite growing up sheltered as she did, the Tale'edras are a hearty people who are likely to get eaten by critters or killed by nasty mages. Especially if she's been training with the scouts, her Strength and Constitution are going to be a /real/ hindrance.

[identity profile] sariel-di.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! :D

Ahhhhhhh. [winces, nods] I wasn't quite sure how the stats translated -- like, in IN, I know pretty much what it means mechanically and ICly to have Str 3, but not what it means in BR to have Str -2. [laughs] Was hoping that the Canny Defense Feat would help make up for 'em, too, but I can change stuff. [grins]

Hm. As a mage and with good Int, is it okay if I take Wis -1, or should I avoid that? (I'm thinking Wis -1, Con -1, Str -1, and drop a point off Cha. Unless those -1s are still crippling, which . . . would kind of suck, because good Dex/Cha are IC and I think she kind of needs her Int for the skills, but. [coughs] I can drop Dex/Cha to +2 each if I have to. [grins])

Keep in mind that target numbers in BR are typically not as punishing as they are in regular D&D. You don't have to weight yourself so heavily in one direction or another.

Also, consider that 0 is 'average'. That's about the same strength and healthiness of you or I or Joe on the street. So if you're below average in those stats, you may want to add something in your history about that. Was she ill as a child? Just being sheltered doesn't really cut it, because even sheltered Tale'edras still live a fairly active life compared to your average modern American, not least of which involves climbing those bleeding trees every day.

You can have what stats you wish, but they /will/ come into play, and you guys are going into a pretty rough landscape. So speaketh the GM.

Ah! Okay. In that case . . . [edits the LJpost] (Honestly, I wasn't thinking so much about "heavily weighted" as "I want the Int so I have the skills to back up her cross-training, and it seems weird for that to be her best stat." [laughs] But knowing that 0 is average helps lots in figuring out what works for the concept. [grins])

Re questions: thanks! :D [makes notes!]

Okay, I looked at the revision, and that looks perfectly good by me. :)

Yaaaay! :D

[identity profile] sariel-di.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Three quick questions:

- Er, is Snowfox an Adept period, or a Master who can eventually become an Adept ingame? [laughs] I'm not sure if Magegifted x2 kicks me all the way up or not.

- Do I need to stat the bondbird, or will you be handling that?

- Have you decided what format it'll be yet, or are you going to wait till players are settled? (I'm still fine with PBP (yay GJ/LJ) or PBeM (yay gmail), but just curious. [grins])

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
- She has Adept potential, which considering she was raised in a Vale, has likely been fully trained. So yes, she's an Adept now.

- I'll be handling bondbird, companion, and familiar stats. :)

- Still up in the air. Once I know exactly who will be playing, I'll probably put it to a formal question.

I will play one Jorian Balathon, a young human Guardsman from Valdemar. I was thinking of a warrior, a recent graduate from the Guard's College who has received special training to help him work more easily with foreigners now that the borders are open. Instead of being as combat-focused as some Guards he has a wider grounding in social skills, the intention being that he will one day work as a Palace Guard in Haven or an Embassy Guard elsewhere once he has gained some seasoning.

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That is excellent. Choose a Warrior, but for Favored Skills, you may want to go more towards the social skills like Diplomacy and Bluff. I also recommend Notice and Ride for a guard.

For Feats, you may wish to pick up Shield Training (can use shields), a combat feat such as All-out Attack (reduce Defense rating to add that much to your attack) or Weapon Focus (sword), and perhaps Sensitive since he's got a social emphasis (+2 to interaction skill checks with thinking creatures).
