The Word of 'History' has actually been a more contested and debated title that one might expect for something that is only barely Superior-level. It hardly has the instant resonance of Children or Protection. But the angelic forces of Heaven understand that humans are deeply affected by their perceptions of the past as a guide to the future, and although they /do/ intend to write the history books after the War is over, in the meantime, someone needs to ensure that the mortals get the right tools to make their decisions.

At one time, of course, History would have fallen under Raphael's purview, but she never sponsored anyone for the Word, for reasons of her own. After her willing sacrifice, the Council began looking for Words that could take up the slack without reassigning Knowledge, itself. History was one of these, and several former Scholars threw their hats into the ring, as did several angels of Destiny, War, and Judgment. In the end, the Council chose a relatively young Seraph of Judgment as their new Archangel. Alma had made the Fall and its consequences for angelic and society her main course of study, and had discomfited several prominent members of the Council as she pointed out things that were lost, or had been placed on the back burner, because of 'the emergency'.

In the end, the Council decided that this was exactly what History needed: a champion, not a propagandist.

Dissonance: Angels of History may never misrepresent a historical event, or allow a willful misrepresentation to go unchallenged. They can refrain from correcting honest ignorance, but most usually will attempt to educate someone unless they have pressing duties elsewhere. The sole exception to this dissonance condition is concealing evidence of the War from humans, but even then, the alterations should be omissions, not lies, if at all possible. They vastly prefer to grow Roles the hard way, rather than fake paperwork. It's rare to see an angel of History with a Role less than 5.

Seraphim: Seraphim of History can tell, at a glance, if a given record of a past event is mostly false or mostly true. For information dealing with Roles (school/work records) 'mostly true' means that someone using that name did those things.

Cherubim: Cherubim of History are the guardians of memories. When using a Memory Pearl, they may spend 3 Essence to simply /copy/ a memory from the target's mind, instead of taking it. For another 3 Essence, they may 'lock' the memory in a given Pearl, so that it can be viewed multiple times. In Celestial form, these angels are often as bedecked with Pearls as Lilim are with Geases.

Ofanim (Restricted): A Wheel of History may add his Celestial Forces to his resonance roll when using it for Area Knowledge or for research, per the expanded resonance rules.

Elohim (Restricted): These Powers may 'lend' their sense of objectivity and balance to another person for a number of minutes equal to their Celestial Forces. While a target is under this influence, he will be able to resist rhetoric and emotional appeals with ease. An unwilling target may negate this attunement with a successful Will roll.

Malakim: The Virtues are assassins in service to History, and thus tread lightly on it. Anytime anyone attempts to enter one of these Malakim into a corporeal historical record, they must make a Will roll minus the Malakite's Corporeal Forces. If they fail, coincidence makes it impossible...records get lost, names are smudged, tapes or pictures don't come out. This attunement cannot be turned off...unlike most Historians, these Malakim cannot maintain Roles, and are typically on specific assignments.

Kyriotate: Kyriotates can possess the memory of a place. With a successful Perception roll, they can experience the most important (determined by the Symphony and the GM) event that has happened in that place in the last (CD x 10) years, through the eyes of a random participant. This will tie up as many Forces as the observer the Kyriotate is using. Other Choirs that take this attunement are locked into a fugue state for as long as the memory lasts, unless they make a successful Will roll to break free.

Mercurians (Partially Restricted): The Friends of Man in service to History have an extraordinary affinity for geneologies. They can tell at a glance if two people are related, even if all they have to work with are pictures, voices, or blood samples. Also, if they have met and spoken to a relative of a subject of their resonance, they gain +1 to the CD of successful resonance rolls for each relation. Other Choirs do not get the resonance boost with this attunement.

Relations: Among the Horde, Alma puts most of her effort against Nybbas and Malphas, both of whom twist historical fact into propaganda for Hell. Currently, her major project is taking on Holocaust revisionism, and many of her angels are in positions where they can interview the dwindling surviors, and ensure that those records are not lost. In Heaven, she can usually be found supporting Litheroy and Yves, and opposing attempts at Heavenly propaganda (usually put forth by Servitors of War, which--along with Alma's unwavering respect for Yves--puts the two Seraphim Archangels at odds quite often).

Allied: Yves
Associated: Litheroy, Dominic
Neutral: Everyone else, except
Hostile: Michael
