Meme: Six favorite songs

"Control", Poe: I blame my friends list for that one. I really, really love the song, and knowing that it's from the CD that was based on 'House of Leaves' (a book that everyone should read for happy brainbreaking) just makes me even happier. It's kinda angry, kinda hopeful, and totally rocking.

"What's Love Got to Do With It?", Tina Turner: I love Tina Turner. She has a gorgeous voice, and this is one my favorite songs by her. I like love songs, but even more than that, I like songs that are angry or strange takes on love, and this is just a great one.

"This Used to be Our Playground", Madonna: Such a beautiful song. A sad, wistful song, that reminds me a lot of the relationship I had with a childhood best friend, especially now that I don't see him at all.

"Music of the Night", Phantom of the Opera: My first musical soundtrack to really listen to was Phantom. Before that, I'd seen a high-school production of Annie, and that was about it. I love this song...it's glorious and beautiful and creepy all at the same time, and unlike a lot of musical songs, it stands on its own. You don't have to know the story to appreciate the lyrics.

"Fancy", Reba McIntyre: I love Reba, and this is my favorite song of hers. I like it for the I'm-not-ashamed tone of it all, and that slight edge of righteous anger that her voice puts in there. It's also a fun song to sing in public.

"It's My Turn to Fly", Urge: This is a rocking song, and if I were ever to do a Soldiers of God soundtrack, I would probably add this in there. The lyrics are good, but mostly it's for the music, which just encourages the great and powerful diddy-bop.

In no particular order:

"Amanda" by Waylon Jennings. I still remember my dad 'dancing' with me to this song. 'Dancing' was me, as a litte girl, standing on his feet with him holding my hands, as we moved around the room. It's one of the few songs I remember my dad ever singing along to.

"Magic Dance" by David Bowie - from the Labyrinth soundtrack. I have many happy memories attached to this song, that related to a whole bunch of people.

"I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick. As cheezy as it sounds, I like the song and what it says. It's plain speaking and very blunt. It doesn't hurt that the song is easy to dance/rock to.

"Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith. *slow, sexy grin* Oh yeah. LOTS of happy memories associated with this song. My hips, automatically, start moving when this song plays. I can't seem to help it.

"Living Dead Girl" by Rob Zombie. I like the words, the music, and the pounding bass line to this song. It's also one of the few songs I'd use to describe myself.

"Under Pressure" by Queen w/David Bowie. What can I say... I can relate to this song on multiple levels. And just when I think I'm about to burst, something about this song helps settle me down.

Strictly as a side note: The song selection changes with my mood. I have a rather large music collection, and can pick a bunch more songs/titles to work with on this. These just happen to be from the cd selection I have at work.
