I really do. I wanted to write porn, it's turning into a science fiction short story. The aliens who formed homosexual pairs except to have three-way orgies of conception were only supposed to be an excuse for hot, hot man/woman/man action. They weren't supposed to have /culture/. But now they do. And I'm interested in it. And the story is too damned talky to be porn, and too pornish to be good genre fiction.

Blast and damn.

Pshaw. There's plenty of precedent for talky porn (see some Brad Armstrong flicks, or Anne Rice writing as A.N. Roquelaire) or pornish genrefic (see Piers Anthony or, for a softer edge, Rose Estes).

Except that it's not...sexy. Unless you're turned on by discussions of alien social evolution and culture. Which, admittedly, I find vastly interesting. But, blah. Maybe it'll get better once I get to the sex, and then I can go through and cut out the rambling.

The line between smut and genre fiction is an incredibly thin one. Hell, aim it at the 'romance' market. From what I understand, there are an increasing number of genre fiction romances. And romances cover everything from mildly veiled allusions which rapidly fade to black, to just this side of Letters to Penthouse Compendium.

That's just if you're planning to try to make it profitable. If it's just for fun, there's always a.s.s.m. Those perverts are always looking for new stroke reading material.

Oh there is no such thing as too talky to be porn.
It just means there are bigger gaps between the folded down page corners in the book >_>

Make me an offer. Include shipping. I may be persuaded to part with significant chunks of them -- I sadly just don't have the room for them all, and knowing they're going to a good home...

Ooo, short story! Culture! AND smut!

Hey, go with it. If it's only a short story, there's a chance that one of the small-press SF-erotica publishers (I know of at least one) would pick it up.

I wonder why you were writing porn? :)

Still if I want any assitance with research, be happy to help ;)

You should read the Wulf Archives. They are both talky and porny. And quite, quite good.
