I'm beginning to think that man is doing this on purpose.

I've ranted about him before, the bane of my working existance. So. Anyway, last time I tried to hook the director's computer into the network, I discovered that the computer had been locked to administrator access, and that I hadn't been given that password. I sent in a work order for the password, and it wasn't replied to until I'd gone home for the holiday weekend, and that was just to say the order had been completed. Well. Okay. So maybe they went ahead and connected it to the network, and my life is easier, I figured.

Not so. Instead, they created a personal login for the director, so that she could get into her computer, but they didn't join the computer to our office domain, so she couldn't access any of our folders, and our office administrator account can't login to the computer. And since I STILL don't have the password to the machine administrator account, I can't do a damn thing about it. Except request the password again.

And then I discovered that when they put the server back together, they neglected to hook the CD drive up again, so I can't make backup CDs, without calling them down here again.

I had a nightmare about this guy last night. Now I know why.

EDIT: Bugger me. He cancelled my workorder.

And people look at me funny when I say centralized IT is a bad thing.

I've often wondered how many thousands of dollars companies loose each year in terms of lost productivity, because a local admin had to wait around on the central office to pretty please do their job.

You know the central office wouldn't be so overburdened if they would just learn to actually trust the site admins a bit and deligate. There is a subtle differnce between cordinating and controlling. You don't have to force everyone to come to you every time they want to do something just to know whats going on.

Sigh...

The thing is, I'm /not/ an admin. I really don't have the training. I got the job based on knowing a little bit of HTML and having more computer knowledge than anyone in the office. (Which isn't saying much.) I never got any kind of briefing on what my duties are supposed to be, or how to do what I'm supposed to do. But I've managed okay, by sheer trial and error, and there are some things that I know how to do.

But he treats me like an utter idiot who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a keyboard. He and his assistant both. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a grad assistant, a female, or some combination of the two, but it's /really/ starting to piss me off. I don't want to have to bug him any more than he wants to be bugged, but if he'd put the effort into showing me what to do (or letting me do the things that I already know how to do), rather than rolling his eyes and making condescending remarks, then I wouldn't /have/ to keep calling him.

*sigh* I'm really starting to get frustrated.

He is probably worried that if he told you how to do it you would be better at it than he is. :)

*pats*
IT people have an amazing power to be incredibly jerks. And get away with it.

You may be able to reset the machine administrator account (is this XP?) by booting it in safe mode, and getting into the account from there.
