The funny thing about finishing all of your work ahead of schedule, despite distractions, is that then, they give you more. I avoid it! By doing alchemy-stuff.

The Sextae /are/ a playable race.

Appearance: In their native form, Sextae are four-limbed quadrupeds, long-limbed and silver-skinned. They stand around seven foot high at the shoulder, and have long necks topped by deer-like heads. Their native form is not strong, but it is swift and graceful. The Sextae are some of the finest runners in existance, and are often seen doing it for the sheer joy of the exercise. Their eyes are large for the rest of their head, and tend to be blue, grey, or silver in color. Naturally carnivorous, their docile-looking muzzles contain strong, sharp teeth, and their wide paws have unusually large claws, which are partially retractable. However, Sextae are rarely /ever/ found in their native form.

Abilities: -2 penality to Strength, +2 bonus to Grace and Speed. Sextae are natural shapeshifters. Alone among the races, they can move their flesh from one form to another without harm or risk of losing themselves. With a successful Will roll, they can assume any living, corporeal form that they know. The natural duration of this change is a day, but it can be ended prematurely with another Will roll, or extended without a roll by the spending of aether (every point of aether spent extends the shape for another day). This a change of the flesh and not the spirit...the sexta can mimic the outward appearance of something, but not its true nature. They do not gain the special abilities, stats, or native skills of their assumed form. Thus, a sexta in the shape of an angelica would look fairly impressive, but be unable to speak angelica language, fly by will, or have its immunity from physical attacks. A sexta in the shape of a bird /would/ be able to fly, however. There are limits to the mass that a sexta can mimic. They can assume any shape from the size of a domestic cat (about eight pounds), to the size of a draft horse. If a sexta wishes to assume a /specific/ form, for the purposes of impersonation, they must also make an Intelligence roll, or be looking at an accurate reproduction of the target's features. Due to their familiarity with the subtle tells of transformation, sextae also get a +2 bonus to identifying other sextae, or other transformed figures. Note: Goods, clothes, and weapons are not transformed with the sexta; these characters tend to travel light, or pick a certain 'class' of forms (like humanoid) that allow them to carry what they need to.

Personality and Culture: Sextae tend to consider rules to be something that happen to other people. They are used to avoiding consequences by shifting into a new shape, or just plain outrunning trouble. As a result, you will most often find them as drifters, thieves, spies, assassins, and scouts, always staying one step ahead of the law and the people they've bilked. They tend to identify themselves by family ties, rather than nations...there is no sextae government, but any two who meet will spend a few hours going through the complicated web of family ties, and determining whose family has the greatest social standing. They share information freel with other sextae, occassionally exchanging shapes instead of coin for services...a few hours practice in assuming the form of the guard commander in the next town is more useful to a sexta than coin that they might have to throw away tomorrow.

Of course, not all sextae are lawless reprobates. Some have signed on to causes, liege lords, or cities, and use their talents to fight trouble, rather than cause it. A sextae knight can be a truly fearsome foe, as they flicker through shapes in battle. Also, many sextae take occassional or permanent work as messengers, fufilling their most ancient of traditional duties. The symbol of the sextae race is the winged lion. Houses and public buildings marked with this symbol are popular gathering places for the shapeshifters, in a world that often doesn't appreciate their particular gifts.
