My first D*C. I rate it a B, mostly for reasons relating to my own peculiar whims and fancies than to any inherent qualities of the con.
First, it's really big. REALLY big. For those of you who have had the dubious pleasure of seeing me in groups larger than about seven people, you can imagine how pleased being around thousands of people I didn't know, most of whom were loud and drunk, made me. Especially since I am not the most graceful of nature's children, and just being in arm's reach of that many expensive, delicate-looking costumes made me terrified of falling over and ruining someone's clothes. Which, I can happily say, I did not.
I would likely recommend, if you have not been to D*C, don't staff your first year. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I could have done what I did my first RoundCon, and done the rounds of the games, joined a LARP, and so forth. Gaming is much better for actually /meeting/ people, and making friends, and having goals and things to do during the con. As it was, I felt at a loss, with the friends I came with being either with their other friends, or doing staff-stuff. And due to the fact that two of them were on the same staff as I...when I was on staff, they were gone doing Stuff, and when I was free, they had work to do. However! I did get to see one of the Firefly panels, which rocked. (Except for the fanboy moron who just had to ask Inara and Kaylee's actresses if they thought the characters were having nude pillow fights and various other things.) I also got a delightful night of filk goodness...Tom Smith was pretty exhausted by the time I saw him, but still a good showman, and Michael Longcor was cool. And, if you ever get the chance, see Boogie Knights. Eeeeee, so good. And fun! The costumes were nifty. Many of them were very good, and the ones that weren't very good were at least very enthusiastic. The best one I saw was an undead dragon rider...complete with dragon. He had the head and wings rigged up so that he could move them around and it looked /really/ good. I believe he won the Best of Show at the Masquerade (which I missed). The least entertaining was probably Saddam Hussein...I'm still not exactly clear on what made that seem like a good idea, but I'm leaning towards copious amounts of alcohol.
If I go back some year, it'll probably be with a group of friends that I can bum around with, attend panels together, and stuff like that. Or, as mentioned, I'll go hang out in the gaming room and make friends through gamestuff. Also, there are some gaming panels that I REALLY wish I could have caught.
While watching zombie movies, I also came up with an Idea. More on that later.

2. It's not a game idea! It's actually about RL stuff, although only in a tenuous capacity.
