Whee! Spent the weekend at RoundCon, and had whole barrels of fun. I played CoC d20...a Vietnam-era military scenario with VC Zombies of Doom, wherein I was Luis Ramirez, the team leader. There's a special kind of squee you get when a GM that you have never personally met pulls you aside and tells you that other people had recommended you as a strong RPer for a difficult character. It was giddymaking, even if I did have to try and come up with small-group tactical skills on a moment's notice. Did pretty well, too. We only lost /one/ character, and that was to a massive critical failure on a demolitions roll (/Two/ 1s in a row. None of us could believe it.)
In other news, I played several games for the first time. Chrononauts, which I've decided that I adore beyond reason, Dungeonquest (also known as a sadistic GM's wet dream), Witch Trial (I won! Made lots of money!), Deadwood (Did not win, but had fun), Copper Kettle Co. (Not a game to be played when you're half-asleep. It requires both math and memory skills), Bang! (I got to bang people...of course, some of them were trying to bang me to death, but that's the risk you run when you're the sheriff), Diceland (very interesting game. It's kind of like a miniatures wargame, but your 'minis' are large eight-sided paper dice, and each face has different hitpoints and abilities. You roll the dice onto the table, one a turn, and are trying to destroy the other player's army. Lots of fun), Make Your Own Change Day (Cute, very simple Cheapass Game), and Deadwood (You're bit players in bad westerns, trying to earn the most money and film credits. Fun game! Fairly long, however).
Also, in the dealer's room, they had...Summer Fun Cthulhu Plushies! I didn't buy one, although I was very tempted. It was a little Cthulhu in Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and a straw hat. The cute was immense.
In a final note of news, the notorious 'gamer stink' was nowhere in evidence. The worst offenders had found significant others over the year, and had apparently discovered the joys of both nookie and soap at the same time. And can I hear a Halleluia? :P
