...pokes at me about a sequel to Planescape: Torment. Now, not a direct sequel, because I'm pretty satisfied with where The Nameless One's story ended, and damn, the poor guy deserves to do his penance in peace. But was thinking about something that evoked a similar atmosphere, but with different themes. Planescape: Redemption, if you like.
I stole the original premise from an offhanded mention on RPG.net: The PC character is a fallen Deva, stripped of his/her powers by some crime (that you can choose in the initial dialogue), and exiled to Sigil. Along the way, s/he meets up with various NPCs, each with their own crimes in their pasts, and chooses at each path whether to reach for redemption (and help his compatriots do so), or to enjoy his new path and cast off all regret (and encourage his companions likewise). Or, of course, a little of both, which might be a good idea, since it /could/ be that some rebellions are justified, after all...
Some NPCs that are really tugging at me:
1. Rollo. Rollo is a fighter class...dog. Yup, a dog. An intelligent, speaking dog who used to be the High Priest of a Prime religion, a man of immeasureable spiritual and and temporal power. And now, for some reason, he's been stripped of all his clerical abilities, polymorphed into a dog, and ended up in Sigil. He's True Neutral, rather bitter about the entire mess, but a good friend if you don't rag him too much about his state.
2. Anasala. A human Cleric from an obscure Prime plane. Her religion demands that the priestly submission of cleric to god be echoed by /earthly/ submission, and her clerical abilities are only active if she's enslaved to someone else and follows their commands without fail. She is, unsurprisingly, encountered at the slave market, and can be purchased or set free. She's also a romance option, depending on how you interact with her. Has a special ability that gives her the ability to buff the PC, at cost to herself.
3. Mersala. Ghost Blackguard/Cleric. Anasala's twin sister, who led a rebellion in the ranks of the priesthood, against the enforced bondage, and was killed by her twin at the moment of her triumph. Her spirit can optionally be reclaimed from the Hells, but she's a really, truly pissed off young dead woman, especially if the PC owns her sister.
4. Oren, Tiefling Bard. A charming wanderer with a truly immense number of enemies throughout the planes. Since an early age, he's been cursed with the ability to love only one person in the entire world. He's decided instead to love none, but pretty much have gleeful sex with them all. A romance option for male or female PCs, as Oren certainly doesn't care, but towards the climax of the romance, the PC has to help Oren make a very difficult choice. He's got a special ability to charm.
5. Crystaledge, Sword Fighter. Yep, it's a sword. An intelligent, dancing sword created by a Sigil archmage to be her personal protection, since the mage has /much/ better things to do than sully her hands with melee combat. It's a hell of a tank, and could have been accorded a success...except that the sword refuses to shed blood. After Crystaledge floated there and watched its mistress get killed, said mistress (after ressurection), got tired of arguing with the damned thing and stuck it in a rock until someone would willingly claim ownership of a completely pacifist sword.
There are some others that I've been considering, but those are the main ones that I've already got dialogue and plots in my head for.
