Today was a good day. It was absolutely gorgeous outside, to start with. A little windy, but bright, sunny, and in the mid-sixties. I found the library (at last!), although I'm sure I annoyed someone by driving a couple miles under the speed limit while /looking/ for said library. It is in a slightly weird place for a building on main street. I got a library card, a Harlequin which was exceptionally poorly written, and the audio version of World War Z. Fascinating listening, enough to keep me interested, even though I'm not a big fan of audiobooks. This one has a full cast of decent voice actors, so it feels more like listening to a radio documentary.
I have also realized something over this last week. We've been busy at work, and I've had plenty to do, but I no longer feel so overwhelmed and pathetic, the way I did at the beginning of the year. I actually feel reasonably competent at my job, and I think that at least some people who I work with agree. There is a lot more that I would like to do, but I'm willing to put it on the drawing board for planning how to integrate it next year, rather than disliking myself because I'm not able to change things over night. If my contract is renewed for next year, I think I'll do well.
Also, I've opened a savings account, and I'm working on budgeting for myself. My goal is 4,000 in savings, to provide a three month expense cushion, should something happen, and then opening a Roth IRA. After I get a decent amount in there, I'll look at mutual funds. I want to start building something for retirement, so that I am less likely to have to live on dog food.
