Grrr. Arggh.

Not much sleep last night. This is unfortunately because I woke up in the middle of the night with new game mechanics in my head. For, sadly, a 'weird west' sort of game, which is not a genre that I usually have any interest in. Percentile based, without structured magic available to PCs, but 'hoodoo' that PCs can purchase as character quirks and powers. Things like 'the evil eye' and 'gambling mojo'. I couldn't stop /thinking/ about it. For three hours, from about four to seven, I tossed and I turned, and I wrestled with stats and skills in a half-asleep daze. WHY? *weep*

Also, I am once more attempting to get the maintainence people to fix my light. And slowly cleaning my house. The kitchen is as clean as I can make it without being able to see. The living room is almost presentable. Once it is, I'll tackle the bathroom. The bedroom, sadly, is likely to remain the Junk Depository room, at least for the foreseeable future. S'just the way it is.

Finally, OMGWORKTRIP. I am not spazzing yet, but the spaz will come. Oh, yes. Sadly, I don't think anyone on my friends' list is within a very short hop of where I'll be going, or I'd try to arrange food. As it is, I will be taking my schoolbooks, and possibly my PS2 w/DVDs and games up there. I'm off 'work' by three on Thursday, and will need something to do. :D

Sounds like a major improvement over Deadlands. I'd play it!

See, I'm worried that it'll overlap too much with Deadlands, although the system is less...odd. Although still fairly odd. I'm thinking of percentile, with stats and skills running from 1-50, and possibly about five stats: Strength, Dexterity, Education, Will, and Wits. I'd probably integrate the Perceptive/Active split I talked about in a previous post (with Perceptive checks going off of Wits, or Education. Haven't decided.) And I'm thinking of having guns having their own ratings, 1-50, and firearms checks going off of Skill + Gun Rating, in order to reflect the idea that if it's a nasty enough gun, a complete newb /can/ pick it up and have a chance to hit /something/ (shotguns, gatlings, etc.) Also to have the supernatural elements to be more...underground. More CoCish than Deadlands, where most people are quite aware that the World is Weird.

So no giant hordes of Zombies at Gettysburg? Awww. :p

No giant hordes! Evil, flesh-eating wendigo stalking settlers across the open plains, though...

You need to have a work trip to Melbourne Australia *nod nods* Oh and..er..bring the shirt >_>

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! If my work would shell out that kind of money for /anything/, it'd be amazing.

And no! My shirt! MINE, d'ya hear?

On a more serious note have you thought of actualy looking through some of the major gaming companies sites? they often have calls for writers and the like and it is something you can do part time (considering what they pay you might well need too :)

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, if I could ever /finish/ anything. Right now, I wouldn't hire me for a writing project. I'm too flaky, unless I have collaborator to work with. And then I'm too pushy and over-enthusiastic, and people end up hitting me on the head with things.

[identity profile] cpip.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Or she chooses to collaborate with people even flakier than she is and nothing gets done. :p

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
We neeeeeeeeeeeeed to sit down and work on that, yes. :D We've got good ideas! They're solid ideas! They've not really been done before! We've got the start of statty things!

We just need to, y'know, work on it. *hangs head*

[identity profile] usekh.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point, there was a (slightly snooty) quote from Neil Gaiman along the lines of "Anyone can start a story, writers can finish one"

*peers at a HD full of half finished writing*Er...yes..

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* It's /true/ The finishing is what counts. I can start like anything.
