FLOP.

This is, of course, why taking vacations (even if they're not actually vacations) is /bad/. Two computers and two printers came in while I was out, the backup drive needs to be set up (I don't even know how to do that...I need to set up a backup for the /server/ through one of the computers on the network, not on the server itself...any suggestions?), and one of the websites apparently did not transfer correctly and needs to be rerouted.

I haven't even managed to do any of /my/ stuff today, I've been running around after the tech stuff. GAH.

Wanna go home.

Re: The Backup.

I take it the backup drive is connected to a computer, we'll call it Comp A, and that needs to be where the backup is written to, correct?

If that's the case, simplest thing is to setup the backup drive on Comp A. Then set it as a shared drive. Then go to the server and map that drive. Once it's mapped, your backup software should have that mapped drive as an available location to backup the data to.

Oooooh. Thank you very much! I actually understood that. I'll have to try it tomorrow.

...assuming that we still have software for that backup drive. I don't remember filing anything that went with it, and we've been through...about four grad students since it was set up. God only knows where it is /now/.

You're welcome.

If the PC is W2K or XP, it should auto recognize the drive. If not, you can probably get it from the manufacturers website. And the server should already have the software installed (probably Veritas).

If you need to, give me a call. You still have my cell number? If not, email me and I'll send it to you.
