Somewhat doom.

On the bright side, I managed to fix a tricky printer problem, which makes me happy and joyful, especially since how to fix it wasn't in the documentation ANYWHERE and I had to track down, of all things, an Amazon.com review to figure out how to fix it.

Also, I read the new King novel. Very, very interesting! He's getting a little obsessed with head injuries. But still, good to see stuff from him. (There's also a Very Small DT reference within the novel. Blink and you'll miss it.)

Anime club tonight. I go wheee.

What is it with printers today? I've been working all morning on a problem with a label printer and finally got it fixed.

DT?

Dark Tower!

Dark Tower, another Stephen King series, and pretty much his masterwork. The Dark Tower world/mythology touches, by design, /most/ of what King has written, to varying degrees. It's become a sort of hobby for me to find the DT references in the books, and try and string it into a coherent metaworldview.

Ahhh. And now I am unsurprised that I didn't know. :)

That's cool that he throws it into other books.

I am convinced there is now a small DT reference in every Stephen King book since, oh, around the Drawing of the Three.

Certainly! Some small, some large. And it's even before the Drawing of the Three...'It' is almost definitively tied into the DT mythos, and of course The Stand is, as well. And since the Stand is, the short story from Night Shift that's set in the world of the Stand is tied, too. I think 'Eyes of the Dragon' is the first mention of the White and Rhea of the Coos, however.

Technically, the Talisman (co-written with Peter Straub) is the first complete Dark Tower novel, although the actual story of the Gunslinger came out before it. Although I don't think anyone ever really read the Talisman.

Clive Barker wrote a book called WeaveWorld that was very close in soul and feel to the Talisman which I enjoyed very much a very long time ago, but I don't remember it very well.

If you want to read an intensely trippy book, I recommend reading Gregory Maguire's WICKED. His take on Oz does have a very DT feel about it, even if it isn't DT.

I have read the Talisman...about five dozen times. :D One of the /best/ books ever put out there. It nails the feel of urban /fantasy/, as opposed to just modern stuff with elves.

I love Clive Barker.

Wicked is an extremely slow, sluggish book, but it definitely has its moments. Creepiest Oz Ever.

Heehee! Lots of other people I know have. A lot of them like it better than either of the author's alone. It's a shame that "Black House" ended up being /so/ Dark Tower that it almost wasn't Talisman at all.

*sads* I have Black House queued up as an audiobook on Audible, but I just haven't gotten to it yet. I have two hours a day in commute so I pound through books while on the road to pack just that much more good fuzzy information into my head during the day, but these books are like 30 hours a pop, so I don't get through them all that fast that way.

But I will get to it! It is bought and queued!

I'm another. And it's one of my favorites as well. It had a great romantic feel to it. I should reread that.
