A Gospel of Judas has been revealed, saying that in an otherwise unreported conversation between the two, Judas was directed to betray Jesus at his own request. If nothing else, it probably has a very interesting perspective on the whole thing...wish I could read it.

It does look interesting, but looking at the text of it-- it's a gnostic work, both in attribution and in type, since Judas is helping Jesus remove his spirit from the prison of flesh. It probably won't change a lot of present-day Christian sects in any way, since I'm fairly certain that gnosticism is repudiated by most of them anyway, and that's even if you don't discard any Gospel that didn't pass the /first/ "sanctification" test.

Oh, no, I don't expect it to have any effect on modern Christianity, but I'm not Christian, and so that's okay. ;) I just find it interesting in what it could say about some of the early factions, and would /love/ to read it.

(Well, it's in Coptic 'cause it's a Gnostic text and the Gnostics were Egyptian mostly. But still!)

Hm, that's pretty fascinating stuff. I wish more Christians were aware of the tangled growth of their doctrine (as evidenced by documents like that!).

... it also made me think of a very good short story I read about a far-future heresy focusing on Judas. :D
