Missing the point...

I'm a member of an RPG promotion community, half because I'm too lazy to unsubscribe, and half because I still hold some small hope of one day finding a decent RPG on there. I see some pretty strange RPs advertised, but this particular one is just...missing the point on so many levels.

It's a Rent/Crow crossover. Yeah, as in The Crow, the Brandon Lee movie with the dark, gothic, and doomed city and the avenging undead that stalks therein. And Rent, the broadway musical about twenty-something bohemian-wannabes, loving and starving and dying, and learning to live for today.

But that's not all! The ad solemnly informs us that the Rent part 'stays true' to the musical and movie...except that Mark and Roger are banging each other. Oh, and Angel's alive. Oh, and neither Angel or Mimi are feeling particularly ill. But aside from those minor details, it's EXACTLY like the real thing! Yay!

...gah.

EDIT: ...oh. And Roger has died and been brought back as The Crow. Or something. Dear lord.

Yes! I mean, it's not like Mark and Roger have been established to be heterosexual or anything. And it's not like not even Roger is self-centered and stupid enough to go about risking infecting his BEST FRIEND with HIV, even if he did suddenly get the urge to turn on the hawt hawt manlove.

And not killing Angel off pretty much sucks. I like Angel a lot, but damn, his death is supposed to be a huge turning point for the rest of the cast, a reason to reconsider their lives and the way they're living.

And why could they have made Angel the Crow, if they had to have one of the characters?

Yes, Angel has to die. It is heart-wrenching and all, but it MUST HAPPEN.

I don't think Angel has the broody, melodramatic angst for proper Crow-ness. Whereas Roger is /all/ over the Angry Emo.

But yeah, Angel should have bit it. Dealing with HIV and the inevitability of losing the people you love because of it--and how you cope with that--was one of the main themes! Angel exemplified that! (Although the scene in the movie, with the people disappearing from the chairs in the support group...oh man, oh man. That got me where it hurt.)
