Last day of work!

At least, for two weeks. Which makes me rather happy, all things considered. I am eating an orange for lunch. Just an orange, for I am fat, and need to become less so. Also, getting more Vitamin C probably wouldn't kill me. Also, i feel bad for I am uncreative. I would like to be more creative, but these days, when I come home, I'm just without energy.

It is sad.

But looking forward to the party!

For what it's worth, starving yourself to lose weight is every bit as bad as overeating, if not in some ways worse. The trick to weight loss is to figure out how much food your body needs and eat just under that amount.

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not starving myself. I /know/ what my food problems are, mainly that I love rich, fatty foods and lots and lots of meat, and I don't eat enough fruits and veggies. Also, that I eat when I'm NOT hungry, simply because 'it's lunchtime', which prompts me to go out and get something from the fast food restaurants all around.

No, I'm not 'starving myself'. I'm eating better, and I'm eating an orange at work to cut off the habitual desire to go out and get fatty food.

But thank you for the advice.

Boy, does that sound familiar. Add a craving for red wine and you've got my food issues nailed. The creativity issues sound familiar too, but I blame that on lack of sleep. A tired Derek is a fairly stupid Derek.

They taste so, so very GOOD. And the weird thing is that I /also/ like fruits and some veggies. It just always ends up feeling like veggies take longer to prepare, whether it's tearing up lettuce for a salad, or chopping an apple. It always, somehow, seems easier to just slap a pork chop in the fryer, or cook up some gravy and rice.

Lack of sleep may definitely be a contributing factor!

I agree, vegetables and fruit are in general good things. The problem is that they have to be both fresh and/or well prepared. Whereas even bad steak or pizza or shepards pie is still soaked in cheese or gravy or, well, steak, which is always good. But soggy lettuce or overripe fruit just can't be saved.

What's your costume this year? I'm dressing up as a new and cranky parent i.e., "I bought candy to give out, what more do you want? Here, take my Coffee Crisps and get off my lawn, ya punks!"

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! And I tend to be really sensitive to fruits or veggies being 'off', even a little bit, too.

Pirate wench. Or, in reality, generic kinda-old-timey-female with pirate hat and sword. :)

My motto is "If the lady has a sword, I'll call her whatever she wants me to."

Have a great Hallowe'en! I think I'll be carving my pumpkin tonight. I'm hoping that tomorrow night is going to be warm enough to sit out. We're in a new neighbourhood so I have no idea if I'll have 5 kids, or 500. My plan is to sit at the front door with a couple of oil lamps and a good book, so no matter what happens the evening will be well spent. (Look! There's a large pile of candy beside me too. Whatever shall I do with it?)

*grins* Have fun! I hope that many cute and adorable children come to your door over the course of the evening, to receive delicious candy treats!

I hear you on that one. I think one of the tricks is to find fruits/veggies that are easy to include with your food. For example, I like making curry with raisins. No having to cut them up that way! I also like using frozen veggies - peas, broccoli, spinach, etc. It's not *quite* as healthy as fresh, but that way they don't go bad when you get into a schedule crunch... and they come pre-cut, so all you have to do is dump them into the pot!
Congratulations on your fresh attention to what and when you're eating! I've been trying to improve my snack habits by keeping "healthier" snacks at home, after having lots of energy drops when I did too much of the carb-and-protein thing. I do find it's easier out here, where you can find anything in the world at the corner store. But I've discovered that if I'm hungry, I will be equally satisfied by chocolate, cookies, Doritos, hummus with crackers, spinach dip with pita chips, peanuts, or dried fruit/fresh berries... which one I eat is really just a question of what's in the fridge/cupboard.
Now when I get particular cravings (like for wings, or chocolate) I still indulge them, but this way if I'm just feeling munchy... I have baby carrots or strawberries around for that.

I have been fairly stressed out with school and everything lately, and so have been indulging in WAY MORE chocolate, ice cream, and candy than I usually have. Normally, I don't do a lot of sweets, but the comfort-food cravings ran high over the last several weeks.

I'm trying to do that, though...keep better stuff around, so that when I go looking, I'll get what I /should/ be eating.

[identity profile] amethystjade.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain. I had the urge to not eat all damned week in hopes of fitting into one of my costume options.

And then sanity returned, and I'm eating anyway. Nothing I can do about it right now that would help that quickly.

WILL SEE YOU SOON SQUEEEEEE!

What day are you coming in?

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Oddly enough, the costume try-on was what brought on /my/ sudden weight fears, as well, although I know I've been slipping for a while. Why, oh why, do we do these things to ourselves?

I should be in on Saturday. Probably about 4 PM?

[identity profile] amethystjade.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I told Chris that working on a better diet was one of my first priorities once all this party stuff is over with.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy! Do you still remember how to get to that parking lot? We can come pick you up from there.

[identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sure, I remember easily. And I can walk from there...it's not far, and I don't have as heavy a bag as I did last time.

.. my total and complete sympathies.

I always feel sort of guilty complaining about food issues, since I'm -- well, pretty tiny. But /for me/ I'm heavier than I want to be, and it's all completely tied up with food being such a hedonistic pleasure, and...

Yeah. Sympathy.
