That bad, huh? (The masochist in me says, link, link! to the worst examples.)
I'm not really much good at web design, myself. But then, I know this, and this is why I run all my new layouts by several people before even submitting them to the boss for approval...
Some of them are good, a lot of them are somewhat bad, and some of them are very, very bad. I can't link right off hand, because I usually couldn't find any of the information I was looking for on those sites, so I didn't bookmark them. But, in general: lousy color schemes, far too many busy, 'interactive' elements that serve no function, banners and icons that were probably done in Paint, and confusing/frustrating layouts.
