Okay. A couple of notes...

I think that we will be using D&D 3.5 for this, with some alterations to help cope with the WoWness. Sixth level characters, with +2 Feats. Talents will be feats, but instead of having levels, you'll either get the full benefit, or an equivalent benefit (for things that don't translate well to tabletop, or will require too much blasted math).

Professions (and special Rogue skills like Poison, Stealth, Lockpicking) will be skills. Skill points will be adjusted to something a little larger for most classes. Professions themselves will be more freeform (instead of specific recipes, we'll work out DCs for various effects that you want to do). And yes, you still can only have two, although the 'gathering' professions will be included in their allied crafting profession. (Alchemists have herbalism, Leatherworkers have skinning, Gemcrafters/Engineers/Blacksmiths have mining.)

The world will be expanded. The Ghostlands is much larger than it is in-game, and would take about a week and a half on foot to cross from one end to the other. Silvermoon City is nearly a month away on foot, and three or four nights away by bat. Tranquillen (the only friendly town) has a population of about 30-40 somewhat stable NPCs (and the buildings for them), and usually almost that number of temporarily assigned characters, not including those who are trying to reclaim some of the lost villages and estates from the Scourge invasion.

Yes, you will have Hearthstones, but they can only be used once a day. I'm not sure, yet, what to do with mana, combo points, etc.

That sounds potentially pretty cool. About how long of a campaign are you looking into running?

I don't know. I have a plot idea, and hooks for the one character concept I've gotten so far, so I'm flexible. Ideally, it will be a game where not /every/ player will be required to be at every session, and side-RP would be encouraged, but we will have scheduled sessions and regular plot happiness.

Plot, plot, yay!

I have a blood elf concept, but it's rather fuzzy. Someone who's sweet and helpful and loyal to her own people, but is completely unruffled by Awful Things happening to anyone else, because only blood elves are Real People. But that might be difficult to stick into a party.

Depends on if she has political savvy to go along with the elitism. :P Right now, in the Ghostlands, the Blood Elves /need/ the Forsaken to have any chance of even holding Tranquillen, much less retaking any of the other lands. And, of course, the heroine Sylvanas Windrunner commands the Forsaken, if that matters to the character. (It's kinda like they're /all/ house servants!)

Hee. I think I could write someone savvy enough to not be public about her views on other races. At least not in front of them. After all, if they're allies and useful and attached to another blood elf, they're at least important in those senses, and so she'd be concerned over what happened to them because of it. Just not, y'know, personally attached.

Well, for mana we could just convert to the spell point system instead of standard D&D Vancian magic?

From: [identity profile] pyrephox.livejournal.com

I believe that is what we shall end up doing. Vancian will not work for Wow!

Not as such.

So how will we do CG? Point-buys? Obviously, you're going to have to hold my hand through some of this...

It will likely be point-buy, yep. And I think I'm going to try and get together everyone who's shown interest, and we can talk about chargen together.

Hey lady,

I need a new addy for you to send Christmas card. Please send to my usual hotmail account.

Hope you are doing good. I understand exactly where you are at.

It is a Sara, yay!

I am doing okay. It's lonely here in Greenwood; I've not found any fellow geeks at all. Other than that, things are acceptable. :) We need to get together sometime, if only online, and catch up!
