Playing IN in the DT Universe (Part 2)

This section is an interpretation of what we know about the DT universe, as of book 6, as filtered through an IN lens. This history assumes that both universes started off, way back in history, in approximately the same fashion, and then diverged.

Here is where the Song of Susannah spoilers start! Beware!

In the beginning, there was Gan. Gan created the Heavens and many, many Earths, to let them flourish or fail as they would, and created the can calah, which some call angels. In the creation, he denied Dis, he repudated Dis and all its formless darkness, but in the repudation of it, he gave it mind and domain of its own. And this domain may be called Discordia, or Hell, or a thousand names whispered in the empty places of the soul. In most of the worlds that are, Dis could only manifest subtly, with no vessels for its power, for all was overseen by Gan and his can calah, and creation had no place for Discordia.

But there came a new creature in all the multiverses, a creature which seemed to be made equally of both Gan and Dis, and this creature was Man. In man's heart was both the White and the Dark, purpose and entropy, and both Gan and Dis were strengthened by his existance. Where Gan cherished, Dis coveted. With his newfound strength, he stretched out his hand across the worlds, and this is where our focus narrows to two universes among the multitude, two pivot points in the great strands of time and space.

In both, Dis sought to subvert the can calah, the servants of Gan (who is also called Jehovah, and Allah, and a hundred thousand different names in a hundred thousand worlds), the angels. In both, he sought to make the can calah into the can toi, who would be called demons. In both, his chosen Champion, the Archangel of Light, rose up against his fellows and struck against the White. In both universes, Lucifer lost.

But in one, he died, and thus sowed the seeds of that world's fall to Dis.

In our world, Lucifer and his rebels were cast out, into the darkness of Dis, which became Hell. In his rage and his pain, Lucifer struck out against his secret patron, ripping from that manifestation of darkness a portion of its power, taking it for his own and channelling it into his followers that they could fight the War against the God he despised. While this continues to serve the purpose of Dis, and the can toi grow strong on the essence of Discordia, it weakens Dis, as well. Lucifer has become his Champion in that world, Fate his chosen weapon, and the War all too obvious to the eyes of Gan and the can calah. Even as he slips one of his Generals, the creature known as Kronos, into the ranks of Hell, his influence is muted against Lucifer's madness, which has exceeded even Dis' control. The only saving grace is that the can calah of that universe do not know what their enemy /truly/ is, nor do they realize that Lucifer did not act entirely of his own volition. Only Yves, he who embodies the White, knows the truth, and yet remains silent, because the White can only flourish where there is /choice/. And thus, in our world, things became the way we know them to be.

In the world which is the the world of the Dark Tower, the rebellion failed, and Lucifer was killed, he and Michael shattering each other early in the battle in full sight of the Host. Even though no Malakim were made manifest, the rebel angels were largely slaughtered or surrendered...those that survived and fled to reach the corporeal found themselves with no great leader, no way to manifest Words, and no safe haven. Dis did not aid them, beyond the warping of their natures to that of can toi, demons. Instead, he withdrew, letting the ranks of rebels be winnowed by the White, letting Gan think that in this place, he was driven out.

Although Dis had been weakened by the death of his Champion, in this world, he did not have Lucifer drawing power from him, did not have to guide an insane Champion in open War against the can calah. Instead, he could wait in the shadows, making plots that unfolded over the millenium. He was a subtle patron of science, his darkness slowly worming its way into the minds of humanity. Without the War, there was no need for a Commander of the Host, or a formal Seraphim Council. This means that Novalis and Marc never became Archangels, and although occassionally an angel would become a Word-Bound through a process no one really understood, no new Archangels were created. There were no Grigori. Human souls that achieved their destinies ascended to the Higher Heavens very quickly; there was no need to stay, with no War and little possibility of emotional ties to the angels.

God's Voice was still hushed, but with the can calah removed from the corporeal plane and no direct threat to the Plan, each angel and Archangel worked on their own projects in Heaven, and was content. And also didn't notice the leaps in technology that the humans were making, or that the Divine religions were being eaten away by Ethereal pantheons and a growing veneration of the machine above all.

Human scientists, aided in a million subtle ways by Dis and the strongest of the can toi who had finally entered his service, gained great and terrible power through technology. Dis' greatest and most subtle agents, gathered under the umbrella of the 'Sombra Corporation', funded North Central Positronics and LaMerk Industries finest creation...the Tower Project. It was /meant/ to be the crowning achievement of mankind, a power source that would feed the world, and form a doorway to the colonization of the stars. It would tap into a power source that humanity could monitor, and didn't seem to be connected to anything, and convert that into the usable energy needed for the technological civilization. For the first time in ages, for the first time since she killed her love, Blandine found herself drawn by the concentrated hope and dreams of a whole civilization, invested into this frail-looking object. She watched with interest, but not much understanding, as the project was completed. Had she talked to Jean, maybe the Host could have spotted the looming disaster, but she did not. And perhaps Jean could not have understood, even if he'd seen. Perhaps it was ka.

When the Tower went online, Heaven shattered.

Most of the can calah died in that one terrible moment, without even knowing what happened. Most of the Forces of those who died were sucked into the gigantic artifact that the Tower had become, and any angel or Archangel who tried to save them shared their fate...one of those Archangels was Yves, who disappeared during the explosion and is presumed dead. The survivors fled into the Marches, as the very stuff of Heaven itself shredded about them. Moreover, the very fabric of what was Real was coming undone, the destruction of Heaven spreading to the corporeal plane. Within a few centuries, it would all be undone and fall into Discordia.

Among the survivors were both Jean and Blandine. Between them, they came up with a plan to halt the decay of the world. The ban on angelic interference was revoked, and the can calah descended on the world, working to turn what they still believed to be purely human organizations to the saving of the world, rather than its destruction. They could 'meld' the Tower of Dreams, and the Dark Tower, stabilizing the flow and placing the whole thing under Blandine's dominion. But it was not enough. With that, the remaining Archangels, led by Jean, made the ultimate sacrifice...they bound themselves into eight great power sources, that would gather and hold the decaying walls of reality. They could not heal the damage, but they thought they could stop it. Their only vessels would be the cybernetic ones created by the LaMerk Foundry and North Central Positronics. The remaining Archangel, Blandine, would be the Guardian of the Tower, ensuring that no human force could use it for ill. The rest of the can calah would go into the world, each serving the White as he could.

The Beams were constructed, the Tower placed under angelic power, and peace reigned for a time. Time enough for the great cities to be created, for the dominance of Lud, and a thousand technological marvels to fill the world. Including the ways to walk from one universe to another. It was this that Dis had been waiting for. He had nearly neutralized the angelic threat by forcing them to devote themselves to tbe Beams, and now that the technology he needed to invade the other worlds had been discovered, he fanned the fires of hatred in the hearts of man.

Enter the Great War.

Okay, my fingers are tired, so I'll have to finish it up later.

I'm sure I don't know the other half of this, but it's looking interesting!
